She holds a degree in medicine and is involved in the line of research on Pulmonary emphysema caused by α-1 antitrypsin deficiency (DAAT). Her role in the research is essentially based on expanding knowledge of the external factors implicated in the mechanism that causes pulmonary lesions in patients with DAAT.
She has also taken part in the coordination of the DAAT screening program in primary care (IDDEA Primaria project) and has worked as an intern and member of the Steering Committee of the SEPAR-HERMES project (Harmonised Education in Respiratory Medicine for European Specialists), an accredited European programme on respiratory medicine promoted by the European Respiratory Society (ERS). She is currently a member of the scientific committee of several multicenter studies interested in encouraging networked research and its potential effectiveness in epidemiologic studies on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The aim is to show conclusively that replacement therapy with synthetic α-1 antitrypsin can minimize lung injury due to excess protease in vivo. Contributing to the fact that specialists in respiratory medicine rule out this genetic abnormality in patients with COPD will favor early diagnosis of this disease.
