New research project funded by La Marató de TV3 2024
La Marató de TV3 is a major public fundraising initiative in Catalonia that supports biomedical research on diseases with high social impact. Through annual TV and radio broadcasts, it brings together thousands of citizens and research teams to advance scientific knowledge and improve patient care.
Our Group has been awarded a €200,000 project from the 2024 edition of La Marató de TV3. Led by Dr Laia Fernández-Barat, Research Laboratory Leader, the project is entitled “Combined effectiveness of antibiotics and bacteriophages for the personalised treatment of ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.”
The study will explore innovative therapeutic strategies to address one of the most severe infections in critical care. Bacteriophages are natural viruses that can be selected to target antibiotic-resistant bacteria. By combining these natural killers with antibiotics, the team aims to develop more effective and personalised treatments against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
In the 2024 call, La Marató de TV3 has funded 36 projects led by 60 research teams working on respiratory diseases. Among them, eight projects are led or co-led by teams from Hospital Clínic, IDIBAPS and ISGlobal, focusing on different challenges related to respiratory health. This confirms the strong commitment of Campus Clínic to advancing biomedical research.
Since its creation, La Marató de TV3 has supported over 1,000 research projects and raised more than €250 million through public donations, making it one of the most successful and socially impactful scientific initiatives in Spain.
