Non-invasive ventilation project led by Dr. Miquel Ferrer awards the 2010 Lilly Prize
The study has been published in The Lancet and proofs that correct application of non-invasive ventilation after extubation increases survival of critical chronic respiratory patients in 20%
The article Non-invasive ventilation after extubation in hypercapnic patients with chronic respiratory disorders: randomised controlled trial, written by Drs. Miquel Ferrer, Jacobo Sellarés, Maurici València, Andrés Carrillo, Gumersindo González, Joan Ramón Badía, Josep María Nicolás and Antoni Torres has been awarded the Lilly 2010 Prize by Sociedad Española de Medicina Intensiva, Crítica y Unidades Coronarias (SEMICYUC). Such a prize awards the best clinical research project that was carried out in Spain during 2009. The result was published on December the 22th.
The jury was composed of Drs. Enrique Fernández Mondéjar, Francisco Javier Castañeda Casado, president Eduardo Palencia Herrejón and Lilly representative Dr. Mariano Alejandro Mignini. They all decided to award this project the Lilly 2010 Prize. The research study, that has been recently published in The Lancet, proofs that correct application of non-invasive ventilation after extubation increases survival of critical chronic respiratory patients in 20%.
