Laura Guerrero Molina holds a degree in chemistry from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and is involved in implementing and developing analytical techniques - high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) - to determine drug concentrations in biological samples and in carrying out drug stability tests.
She is responsible for determining drug concentrations in lung samples for the animal model line, and she participates in the line of clinical pharmacokinetics, population pharmacokinetics, and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) modeling. The questions she aims to find answers to include the following: What percentage of the drug penetrates to the lung tissue in an animal pneumonia model? What are the optimum antibiotic, dosage, and route of administration for clinical and microbiological treatment of patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia? Can we establish a link between the toxic effects of the drugs and their concentrations in plasma and/or tissue?
The use of gold standard techniques for analytical determination of drugs in biological samples means that the PK/PD studies can contribute to optimizing pharmacologic treatments.
