Degree in Medicine from the San Agustín de Arequipa National University (Peru). He takes part in the pig animal model research line. He studies alveolar pro-coagulant and fibrinolytic activity in ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
During the process of local inflammation, an imbalance occurs between inflammation and coagulation. This imbalance in the pro-coagulant activity is determined b the reduction in fibrinolytic activity (lysis of the thrombus) at alveolar and systemic level. This process is accentuated in patients with VAP who do not receive appropriate antibiotic treatment. The objective is to identify key biomedical parameters for determining the imbalance at alveolar level in the pig animal model of VAP due to MRSA.
The objective is his project is to correlate the imbalance between coagulation and alveolar inflammation with other parameters in the animal model, based on the suitability of the antibiotic treatment. This is essential for determining the influence of the appropriate antibiotic in this imbalance and its clinical implications in VAP.
