Animal Model
Objectives
- To provide a “pure” animal model of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
- To study the efficacy of new antibiotics and their pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) relationships to the aforementioned microorganisms
- To study nonantibiotic therapies in pneumonia
- To study ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP)

- Study of biofilm in endotracheal tubes
- Study of different techniques for obtaining samples for microbiologic diagnosis of VAP
