The IAMR Group Successfully Develops the Second Phase of the European Study MOSAR to Reduce Resistance to Antibiotics

MOSAR is an international multicenter project funded by the European Union and monitors resistances to antibiotics presented by nosocomial bacteria. The main objective of the project is to inform health care professionals on strategies to combat resistances and prevent the propagation of infectious agents throughout the community. MOSAR is a project related to GRACE and has been in operation since 2008. It involves the participation of 9 countries of the European Union, 50 centers and a budget of €12 million.
Hospital Clínic was chosen to take part in two different work packages (WP). One of them, WP3, in the area of intensive care, is being carried out at the respiratory ICU and the other, WP4, is in the area of surgery.
The MOSAR study will be carried on until 2010 via 10 different work packages. The second phases of each work packages are currently being carried out, according to schedule. The MOSAR team of Hospital Clínic is made up of Dr. Antoni Torres, principal investigator for WP3, Dr. José Antonio Martínez, principal investigator for WP4, Raquel Piñer, coordinating nurse for both WP3 and WP4 and person responsible for developing WP3, and Encarnación Moreno, nurse responsible for developing WP4.
