Success and normality at this year’s meeting of the American Thoracic Society (ATS), despite the new flu
Chronicle of the 2009 ATS Conference held in San Diego (USA), by Dr. Joan Ramon Badia
The annual conference of the American Thoracic Society(http://www.thoracic.org/) was held in San Diego from 15 to 20 May. Our research group, represented by several members, presented data from different studies in progress in both the respiratory disease and cancer lines. There was a poster session on respiratory infections, held in the Sailing Pavilion.
Our group on Applied Research on Respiratory Diseases (IAMR) presented 5 posters, some of which sparked the interest of both the moderators and attendees. We gathered interesting ideas and perspectives in terms of writing up this research. At the same time, we strengthened relations with different national and international research groups.
More than 13,500 people took part in the 2009 ATS conference in the almost summer environment of southern California. The conference took place in an atmosphere of complete normality, despite the lower attendance, compared to other years, due to the prior information regarding the new flu. Some conference attendees were seen wearing masks.
