Oriol Sibila Gives the Young Researcher Lecture at the 42nd SEPAR Conference
His conference dealt with the importance of the inflammatory response associated with respiratory infections
More than 3000 health care professionals took part in the 42nd Conference of the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), held between 5 and 8 June at the Santander Palace of Exhibitions. During the conference, some 640 scientific papers were given out, more than 60 commercial exhibitors were present, and a dozen courses were taught. In this setting, Dr. Oriol Sibila, who was a brilliant resident at the respiratory medicine department of Hospital Clínic, Barcelona until 2004, gave the Young Researcher Lecture. His conference dealt with the importance of the inflammatory response associated with respiratory infections, its diagnostic and prognostic value in both pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and its potential therapeutic modulation, from the point of view of a young pneumologist researcher.
Dr. Oriol Sibila Vidal has spent many years working to develop the pig animal model in artificial ventilation, which provides continuing success for our applied research group on respiratory diseases (IAMR). In fact, he has obtained several grants to develop this model, including the Hospital Clínic, Barcelona End of Residence Award and the SEPAR intern scholarship. One of the merits of Dr. Sibila is having spent 4 months in Buenos Aires with Professor Carlos Luna to learn about the model and carry out 3 studies that are already part of the group’s scientific baggage.
