Mariano Esperatti and Cristina Esquinas presented their work at the II CIBERES Training Meeting in Mallorca
More than 70 young researchers from Spain attended the Meeting and they had the chance to share both their experiences and the national and international studies that they are carrying out
Research physician Mariano Esperatti gave a lecture and research nurse Cristina Esquinas presented a poster session at the II CIBERES (Ciber de Enfermedades Respiratorias) Training Meeting on Respiratory Diseases that was held in Mallorca last 15-16 October.
Dr. Esperatti, a specialist in internal medicine and intensive care, gave a lecture on antibiotic treatment of exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) guided by sputum purulence. This prospective nonrandomized interventional study concludes that exacerbated COPD patients with purulence in the sputum without antibiotic treatment showed no benefit on the evaluated outcomes.
For its part, the research nurse Cristina Esquinas presented a poster on the factors associated with oral hygiene in hospitalized patients with pneumonia who reside at a long stay centre. These patients, according to the conclusions of the presentation, have several comorbidities, serious functional dependence and pharmacological treatments associated with worse oral hygiene.
More than 70 young researchers from Spain, Aragón, Balears, Canarias, Castilla La Mancha, Catalunya, Extremadura, Madrid, Euskadi and Valencia, attended the II CIBERES Training Meeting in Mallorca and they had the chance to share both their experiences and the national and international studies that they are carrying out.
The Meeting also included conferences by well known respiratory diseases researchers such as Dr. Víctor Peinado from Hospital Clínic (Barcelona); Dr. María Jesús Cruz from Vall d´Hebrón (Barcelona); virologist Juan Ortín from CSIC (Madrid); University Teacher Daniel Navajas from Universitat de Barcelona; and Dr. Jesús Guinea from Hospital Gregorio Marañón (Madrid).
