Lina Saucedo: “Working in the research group has been a very fruitful experience”
Colombian Medical Resident of Critical Care Medicine and Intensive Care talks about her experience in Applied Research in Respiratory Diseases Research Group from IDIBAPS.
During her fellowship in the research group, which will end by next September, Lina Maria Saucedo Jaramillo, a current resident in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Sabana, Bogotà, has learned many aspects regarding all phases of the research process, and has also understood the importance of the rigour in biomedical research.
“I was given the chance to come to Barcelona and here I am, carrying out research activities on pneumonia associated with Mechanical Ventilation regarding the animal model”, says Lina. She also points out that such an experience has been “very fruitful” since she has “learned a lot about the research process”.
Lina arrived in Barcelona on December 2008 and she did a training stage for six months in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) of Hospital Clinic de Barcelona. Afterwards, she joined the research group (April 2009) to work in the Animal Investigation laboratory, were she has been doing research with piglets receiving Mechanical Ventilation.
In the 4th Meeting of the Instituto de Investigaciones Sanitarias Clínic-IDIBAPS that took place last December, Lina gave a short lecture about her research activities. The aim of the research consisted of studying the effects of several interventions on Mechanical Ventilation that lead to expiratory pressure on air flows and mucus clearance which, in turn, prevent respiratory infections. “So far, results are promising”, Lina states.
