The IAMR Group successfully finishes the workpackage 4 of the MOSAR European Study to Reduce Resistance to Antibiotics
Since the begining of the study more than 6.000 patients have been enrolled by our group of research
MOSAR is an international multicenter project funded by the European Union that monitors resistances to antibiotics presented by nosocomial bacteria. The main objective of the project is to inform health care professionals on strategies to combat resistances and prevent the propagation of infectious agents throughout the community. MOSAR involves the participation of 9 countries of the European Union, 50 centers and a budget of €12 million.
Workpackage 4 (WP4) will be carried out at three different surgical wards of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona until 31st of July. Since the begining of the study two years ago, more than 6.000 patients have been enrolled up to now. During the first 6 months and the last 6 months these patients were observed and data related to MRSA contamination was compiled. During one year of interventional phase swaps in the admission were taken weekly during the admission phase in order to detect whether patients had been colonized before the admission to the hospital or during their stay.
The team for WP4 of the MOSAR European Study is integrated by principal investigators Dr. José Antonio Martínez and Dr. Antoni Torres, coordinating nurse for both WP3 and WP4 Encarna Moreno, laboratory technician Mª Rosa Monté -with collaboration of chief of the Microbiology Department Dr. Jordi Vila, and research nurse of the IAMR group Isabel Martín.
