Miquel Ferrer awarded for the best clinical presentation of the XXIX Diada Pneumològica organized by Societat Catalana de Pneumologia (SOCAP)
The event took place the 7th, 8th and 9th of April at Internacional Business Center of Badalona
Dr. Miquel Ferrer’s project Corticoides inhalados, respuesta inflamatoria sistémica y mortalidad en la neumonía adquirida en la comunidad won the best presentation award at the XXIX Diada Pneumològica organized by Societat Catalana de Pneumologia (SOCAP) on last April the 9th, in a specific session for oral comunications in which the three best presentations on Medicine, Physiotherapy and Nursing are usually presented.
The project suggests that inhaled corticoids may have a protective effect on patients suffering from community-acquired pneumonia. Ambulatory administration of corticoids is associated with the survival of such patients, possibly due to the modulator role of corticoids connected to the inflammatory response of patients. Results are not related to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease; it was previously demonstrated association between corticoids administration and higher risk for pneumonia in COPD patients.
The XXIX Diada Pneumològica took place at the Internacional Business Centre of Badalona last 7th,8th and 9th of April. The conference counted, as usual, with a comprehensive program that not only dealt with aspects of respiratory medicine in hospitals but also in primary care respiratory medicine, nursing and respiratory therapy.
