The Catalan Pulmonology Foundation (FUCAP) has awarded grants to two research projects of the IAMR group in the 2009 call for applications.
Every year, FUCAP calls for applications for grants with the aim of encouraging patient-care, teaching and research work in the field of respiratory disease.
The IAMR research team was successful in the 2009 call for grant applications by the Catalan pulmonology foundation (FUCAP). Doctors Antoni Torres, Gianluigi Li Bassi and Montserrat Rigol were awarded the FUCAP Maria Ravà grant for the project: Effects of inverted ventilation and PEEP on mobilizing secretions in the prevention of pneumonia. Dr. Eva Polverino, the researcher Catia Cillóniz and research nurse Cristina Esquinas were awarded the LETI grant for their project: Molecular diagnosis of pneumococcal pneumonia in immunocompetent adults.
The objective of the project that received the Maria Ravà grant is to study the pig model of mechanical ventilation and half-sitting position (45° above the horizontal), the effect of inverted ventilation and PEEP on the flow of respiratory secretions, bacterial colonization of the airways and pneumonia. The objective of the project receiving the LETI grant is to validate and implement the technique of real-time PCR, a new fast molecular diagnosis technique, in pneumococcal pneumonia.
Every year, FUCAP calls for applications for grants with the aim of encouraging patient-care, teaching and research work in the field of respiratory disease. There are several grants for amounts ranging between €12,000 and €9000. The prizes were awarded in the Palacio de Congresos de Cataluñua (Barcelona) on 13 March, during the 27th Pneumology Day.
